Although I don’t consider myself naturally crafty, I absolutely love using crafts in articulation therapy! Kids can’t get enough of them, and they provide a refreshing break from traditional articulation cards. Crafts are fun, engaging, and leave a lasting impression. Today, let’s dive into these playful R blends articulation crafts that I designed! These no-prep activities are perfect for speech-language pathologists or parents who want to give their children some extra practice at home.
I created these no prep articulation crafts as a way to bring creativity into the speech room without the stress of prepping materials. Let’s be real—less time spent gathering supplies means more time for everything else on our endless to-do lists. Life as an SLP is busy, so having resources that are simple, effective, and fun is a total win!

Each craft is designed in the shape of a target word—making practice both fun and relevant!
R Blends Speech Therapy Activities
This resource features 24 unique articulation crafts, with 4 for each r blend: /gr/, /kr/, /tr/, /pr/, /dr/, /fr/, and /br/. With so many options, you’ll have no trouble keeping sessions fresh while targeting every blend. Crafts provide a hands-on way to practice communication skills and are especially effective in larger groups, where they help students stay focused and busy while waiting for their turn to drill. They’re a nice break from traditional r blends worksheets!
GR Words
The /gr/ crafts include: grad, grill, groceries, and graph.
The r sound can be tricky, especially when it’s part of a consonant cluster. These fun activities can definitely help keep your students motivated as they do their articulation drills.
KR Words
The /kr/ crafts include: crown, crane, crab, and crust.
These crafts also work beautifully for home speech therapy, since families don’t need to gather extra supplies. I love a good articulation worksheet, but there is something so fun about walking away with an end product! Your students will enjoy these crafts in your therapy room and at home!
TR Words
The /tr/ crafts include: truck, trash, train, and treasure.
In addition to the craft templates, you will also receive lists of words to glue onto the craft! Each word list page consists of 23 different single words and there is a visual cue on each page that shows the tongue placement for the r sound. After students work at the word level, you can use the given words to create short phrases and sentences.
The word lists are incredibly versatile! You can print them out and repurpose them for a variety of activities—paste them onto paper plate crafts, use them to decorate a picture scene, or just use them as a sound-loaded practice page when you need something quick! They’re an excellent resource to have on hand.
PR Words
The /pr/ crafts include: present, prize, print, and predict!
These crafts make practicing consonant blends much more engaging than traditional practice pages. Your speech therapy sessions will be fun and memorable!
DR Words
The /dr/ crafts include: drum, dress, dragon, and drink!
This packet features many common r blends to promote carryover and make articulation practice relevant and meaningful.
FR Words

I’ve always had great success incorporating art into my articulation therapy sessions! Kids love the creative element, and it’s a good idea to let them take their finished craft home for extra home practice with their target words.

Crafts are a wonderful tool for practicing communication skills, and as a bonus, students get to take home a fun keepsake from speech therapy. I’ve found that the best way to work on consonant clusters is through fun, interactive practice that keeps students motivated.
