Although, I don’t have a single crafty bone in my body, I love using crafts in articulation therapy! Kids LOVE them and they’re a nice break from traditional articulation cards! They’re fun, engaging, and memorable. Today, let’s explore these fun TH sound articulation crafts that I created! These no prep articulation activities are ideal for speech-language pathologists or parents who want to help their children get a little extra practice at home.
I created NO PREP articulation crafts, because they’re a way to get crafty in the speech therapy room with no extra effort. I mean, let’s be honest. Less time gathering up craft materials = more time available for other things on our endless to-do lists. Life as an SLP is super busy, so it’s nice to have resources that are easy and fun!
Let’s dive into the TH sound packet (also in a bundle with all of the speech sounds)! These articulation crafts (and all the no prep crafts I’ve ever made can also be found in The Speech is Sweet Club!
These crafts are shaped like articulation word targets! What a fun way for students to work on their articulation skills!
Fun TH Articulation Crafts
There are 25 crafts in total. You’ll find 10 crafts that represent the sound in the initial position, 10 for the final position, and 5 that represents the medial position! That’s a lot of TH words! These crafts will also keep your students engaged as they practice their communication skills. Hands-on activities such as crafts are especially great for large speech therapy groups, as they promote on-task behavior as a student waits for their turn to do repetitive drills!
TH Initial Position Words
The initial position crafts include: theater, thumb, thermometer, thumbtack, three, thimble, throne, think, thunder, and thread.
In addition to the TH shaped crafts, you will also receive 6 sheets of word targets that students will cut out to glue onto their craft. The sheets include: TH initial word lists, TH medial word lists, TH final word lists, and 3 sheets that have mixed word lists (initial, medial, and final positions). Each word sheet features 25 total TH words!
TH Medial Position Words
The medial position crafts include: mouthwash, toothpaste, earthworm, smoothie, and python.
Although, all of the crafts themselves represent the voiceless TH sound, some of the word targets on the word list sheets feature the voiced TH sound. There is a combination of both included. For instance, some of the medial voiced TH words on the sheets include mother and father. When targeting the voiced TH sound, remind your students to turn on their voice box if they’re not already doing it! Some children with articulation disorders need explicit instruction on the differences between voiced/voiceless sounds.
TH Final Position Words
The final position crafts include: mouth, moth, booth, telephone booth, bath, tooth, teeth, Earth, north, and wreath!
Crafts are such a great way to work on communication skills! Your speech therapy students also get to leave with a fun memento!
