Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell is a classic and a must-have for any speech room! It’s about a child who writes to the zoo and asks them to send him a pet. It is too cute! The zoo proceeds to send him animals, but he keeps sending them back! They’re either too tall, too big, or too scary! At last, they send him a puppy and he’s perfect!

This book is also a lift-a-flap, so it’s super interactive and fun! It’s one of my son’s favorite books! Our copy is nearly falling apart! haha.. This book can be used to tackle so many different speech and language skills:
- Vocabulary – zoo animals, pets
- Adjectives – tall, fierce, grumpy, etc
- Prepositions – Each animal comes “in” a crate!
- Basic Concepts – Open/Close
- Gestures – Waving “hi” and “bye” to each of the animals. Wave hi when you open the crate and bye when you close the crate to send the animal back to the zoo.
Truly, this book is a lot of fun and can be used over and over again!
